  5. HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver that supplements 
  6. the online help.

  26. NOTE:   The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver works 
  27.     with Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

  30. Installing through the Control Panel
  31. ------------------------------------
  32. The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver cannot be installed 
  33. through the Control Panel for Windows 3.1. Use the "setup.exe" 
  34. program on the disk that came with your printer (from the Program 
  35. Manager, select File, Run..., then type a:\setup).
  36.  
  37. To install this printing system on Windows 95, go to the Control 
  38. Panel, select "Add Printers". Follow the instructions on the 
  39. computer screen to complete the installation.

  42. Installing the DJPMenu
  43. ----------------------
  44. To run DJPMenu, run INSTALL.BAT from the printer 
  45. software Installation Disk, then type c:\deskjet\djpmenu.

  49. UnInstalling HP's PrintSmart for Windows
  50. ----------------------------------------
  51. For Windows 3.1 users, run "setup /u" from the disk that came 
  52. with your printer (from the program manager, select File, Run...
  53. then type a:setup /u).

  55. For Windows 95 users, delete the printer from the Printers folder. 
  56. You may also wish to remove the "HP DeskJet 300 Series" or 
  57. "HP DeskJet 400 Series" program group from your Programs menu.

  61. 2. Printing with the Infrared Adapter (DeskJet 340 only)
  62. ================================================================
  63. In order to print to the HP DeskJet 340 Printer using the Infrared
  64. Adapter, you must have IrDA-compliant software with printing 
  65. feature installed on your system. If you do not have this software, 
  66. contact your notebook PC manufacturer.
  67.  
  68. Select the port that is configured for infrared printing on your
  69. system. If your system provides both an LPT port and a COM port 
  70. for infrared printing, then select the COM port.
  71.  
  72. For Windows 95 users, use the Windows 95 infrared driver from 
  73. Microsoft. Select the COM port described as "Virtual Infrared 
  74. COM Port".

  78. 3. Problems With Specific Software Programs
  79. ===============================================================
  80. At the time HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver was released, 
  81. the following known software program limitations existed:
  82.  
  83. Corel Draw 5.0 (Corel)
  84. ----------------------
  85. Scanned-in images are printed out as composite black pictures. 
  86. To resolve this, double click on HPWCNFIG.EXE in the Windows 
  87. system directory and turn off Jumbo Technology.
  88.  
  89. Excel 4.0 (Microsoft)
  90. ---------------------
  91. After cancelling a print job, an error message may be displayed. 
  92. Click OK to return to the software program. This is fixed in
  93. version 5.0.
  94.  
  95. Some paths to the driver dialogs do not work correctly and settings
  96. are not retained. Use the following path to reach a printer setup
  97. that works:
  98.  
  99.   For version 4.0: File, Page Setup, Printer Setup, Setup
  100.   For version 5.0: File, Page Setup, Options
  101.   This is fixed in version 7.0.
  102.  
  103. Documents formatted for printers other than HP DeskJet printers may 
  104. shrink when printed. Changing print settings has no effect. 
  105. This is fixed in version 5.0.
  106.  
  107. Freelance 2.x (Lotus)
  108. ---------------------
  109. Doing a gradient fill pattern within a non-rectangular object (for
  110. example, a triangle) will print incorrectly. If you must do this,
  111. then disable "Rectangle Capability" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  112. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in the windows system directory.

  114. Pagemaker 5.0 (Adobe)
  115. ---------------------
  116. With the Print Manager turned off in Windows 95, or in Windows 3.1,
  117. if an error message appears during printing, then exit PageMaker
  118. after the print job is complete to correctly restore the display.
  119.  
  120. Color pattern fills do not always print with the correct pattern.
  121.  
  122. Some documents created in PageMaker 4.0 may not print correctly in
  123. PageMaker 5.0.
  124.  
  125. PowerPoint 4.0 (Microsoft)
  126. --------------------------

  132. PowerPoint 7.0 (Microsoft)
  133. --------------------------
  134. Print jobs are not shown in the spooler. To cancel a job, go to 
  135. the DeskJet Status Monitor.

  137. Printshop Deluxe 1.0 (Broderbund)
  138. ---------------------------------
  139. Objects that go outside the print region are clipped. The program
  140. does not provide a means of adjusting the bottom margin of the 
  141. document to fit within the limits of the printer driver's margin 
  142. settings. This problem is fixed in version 2.0.
  143.  
  144. If a paper size other than Letter is selected in the printer driver
  145. when a document is sent to print, a message may display asking the
  146. user to select either Portrait or Landscape orientation. The 
  147. selection has no effect on how the document is printed.
  148.  
  149. Publisher 1.0 (Microsoft)
  150. -------------------------
  151. You cannot change the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver 
  152. settings from Microsoft Publisher 1.0. You must change them through 
  153. the Control Panel.
  154.  
  155. If you are printing cards and images do not print, check the 
  156. "MS Publisher" checkbox in the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  157. This program is located in the windows system directory.
  158.  
  159. Publisher 2.0 (Microsoft)
  160. -------------------------
  161. Information at the bottom of a page may be clipped. Increase the
  162. bottom margin of your page. See the user's guide for print region
  163. specifications.
  164.  
  165. Word For Windows, Versions 6.0 and earlier (Microsoft)
  166. ------------------------------------------------------
  167. Edges of italic characters may be clipped in version 2.0. 
  168. This problem is fixed in version 6.0.
  169.  
  170. If the 'copies' setting is changed in the ColorSmart dialog box for
  171. a document, the change will not happen for that print job, however,
  172. the change will happen when the next document is sent to print. This
  173. problem is fixed in version 7.0.
  174.  
  175. When printing to a file, the path and filename must be shorter than 
  176. 30 characters. Otherwise, the file that is created will be empty.
  177.  
  178. WordPerfect 6.0 (Novell Corporation)
  179. ------------------------------------
  180. WordPerfect reads the minimum print margins only when it is first
  181. started. These margins are determined by the paper size and 
  182. orientation settings in the driver. If you are unable to set the 
  183. margins to the minimum values for the printer, exit WordPerfect and 
  184. make sure that the correct paper size and orientation settings are 
  185. set in the driver through the Windows Control Panel. Then restart 
  186. WordPerfect. This problem has been fixed in version 6.0a. Contact 
  187. WordPerfect for upgrade information.
  188.  
  189. Works 2.0A, 3.0, 3.1 (Microsoft)
  190. --------------------------------
  191. Charts print incorrectly when the Automatic ColorSmart option is
  192. selected.
  193.  
  194. Write 3.1 (Microsoft)
  195. ---------------------
  196. When printing envelopes, the left and right margins are switched
  197. with each other. If clipping occurs when printing envelopes, 
  198. switch the left and right margin settings.
  199.  
  200. Microsoft Plus! (Microsoft)
  201. ---------------------------
  202. Selecting a pop-up menu during printing may cause the message 
  203. "Printer Not Responding" to appear intermittently. This happens
  204. if the Menu Popup sound event is enabled using Microsoft Plus!. 
  205. To resolve this, disable this sound event in the Control Panel.

  209. 4. Other Known Problems
  210. ===============================================================

  212. DOS Printing
  213. ------------
  214. If you encounter problems printing from a DOS box, then disable
  215. "DOS Spooling" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in 
  216. the windows system directory.
  217.  
  218. DOS Redirection in Windows 95
  219. -----------------------------
  220. Upon installation of the driver in Windows 95, redirection of DOS 
  221. box printing is not activated. To enable DOS box printing 
  222. redirection, an immediate reboot of the system is recommended.
  223.  
  224. Point-n-Print Feature
  225. -----------------------
  226. The point-n-print feature will work the first time you use it 
  227. after installing the driver but may get deactivated. It is 
  228. recommended that you reboot the computer system at least once 
  229. after installation for this feature to be fully implemented.

  231. Windows 95 Spooler
  232. ------------------
  233. The default Spool data format is 'EMF'. If you select 'RAW', this 
  234. is equivalent to disabling spooling. The HP's PrintSmart for 
  235. Windows Printer Driver cannot spool RAW data.
  236.  
  237. The page progress for print jobs shown in the spooler always
  238. indicates the current printing page as 0. However, the correct 
  239. page number is displayed in the DeskJet Status Monitor, and the 
  240. jobs will still print as normal.
  241.  
  242. Windows for Workgroups Network Printing
  243. ---------------------------------------
  244. Sharing printers from a Windows for Workgroups machine is not
  245. supported. (This is NOT a network printer.)If you must do this, 
  246. then ensure that the server machine is not being used for printing 
  247. while network jobs are being sent to the printer. This limitation 
  248. does not exist with Windows 95.
  249.  
  250. Windows 95 Friendly Printer Names
  251. ---------------------------------
  252. To install more than one friendly printer name for a single 
  253. printer, select Add Printer, and when asked to select a printer, 
  254. click on 'HP'. Then scroll to the bottom of the 'Printers' list 
  255. to locate the printer.

  259. 5. Print Regions and Margins
  260. ================================================================

  262. The minimum top margin using the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer
  263. Driver is 1/3 inch. The bottom margin for the HP DeskJet 340 Printer 
  264. is 1/2 inch and that for the HP DeskJet 400 Printer is 2/3 inch.

  266. Note: The printable area on a page using the HP DeskJet printer
  267. software differs from the printable area allowed by DOS software
  268. programs.
